Proposed Interstate 5 wildlife overcrossing receives $33M federal grant

The planned wildlife crossing project near the Oregon and California border in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is set to receive more than $33 million from the Federal Highway Administration. It will be the first wildlife overcrossing for Oregon and the first for the entire stretch of Interstate 5 between Mexico and Canada.

Interstate 5 reopens over Siskiyou Summit

Interstate 5 is now open northbound and southbound over the Siskiyou Summit between milepost 11 in Ashland and the Oregon-California border, ODOT announced at 8:12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, after an approximately 16-hour closure. Chains are required on all vehicles, excluding four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles (unless towing).

Main Street paving due next week Monday and Tuesday

Major roadwork is planned next week Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, through downtown Ashland, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced. The southbound lanes of North and East Main Street — aka Highway 99 — are set for grinding and paving Monday from Maple to Third streets while the northbound lanes of Lithia Way and Main Street from Third to Maple streets is planned for Tuesday.

The Oregon State Legislature’s Joint Committee on Transportation stopped in Medford on Thursday to see and hear first-hand the needs of Jackson County as part of their 12-stop tour that will guide the 2025 transportation package.
