ODOT, city, team to pave Main Street from 3rd to Maple streets, plus Lithia Way

Ashland.news staff report

Major roadwork is planned next week Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, through downtown Ashland, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced. The southbound lanes of North and East Main Street — aka Highway 99 — are set for grinding and paving Monday from Maple to Third streets while the northbound lanes of Lithia Way and Main Street from Third to Maple streets is planned for Tuesday.

Travelers in the two-mile work area will see daytime lane closures, as well as a temporary closure for some parking spaces, ODOT said in its announcement Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Crews will work between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Travelers can expect a single-lane closure through the active work zone. Several downtown parking spaces will be closed for one day during paving. They will be clearly marked the day before the closure.

Construction will not affect access to Asante Ashland Community Hospital; however, motorists should plan for a short delay due to traffic congestion.

The grind-and-inlay paving method involves removing the top layer of damaged or deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with a new layer of asphalt. It is more intensive than chip or crack sealing.

This project is a collaboration between ODOT and the city of Ashland. The work schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.
