‘Grind and inlay’: Main Street gets a little work done

Collaborative project between ODOT and the city smooths a mile of downtown thoroughfare, aka Highway 99

Rough patches of pavement along about a mile of North and East Main streets and Lithia Way were ground up and taken away, replaced by freshly laid inlays of asphalt Monday and Tuesday during a joint project of the Oregon Department of Transportation and the city of Ashland.

According to ODOT the grind and inlay paving method involves removing the top layer of damaged or deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with a new layer of asphalt. Ashland.news photo by Bob Palermini
