City manager: Ashland ‘not going to miss a beat’ after resignations

Ashland City Manager Joe Lessard said the sudden resignations of former Mayor Julie Akins and former Councilor Shaun Moran, and upcoming efforts to fill their seats, will not impact city services or administration. Lessard told Ashland.News in an interview Friday, while there may be “bumps and changes” in filling the two vacancies, the routine at City Hall will be “business as usual.”

Say Their Names memorial restored by community within hours of vandalism

Following an act of vandalism to the Say Their Names memorial along the fence line at Railroad Park in Ashland in between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, residents came together Wednesday afternoon to restore what had been taken down and renew the community spirit surrounding the T-shirts, which bear the names of Black men, women and children lost due to their race.

Hundreds of T-shirts making up the Say Their Names memorial in Ashland’s Railroad Park were torn down sometime late Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. People came to the park Wednesday morning to collect, straighten and clean the shirts with the plan to return at 3:30 p.m. to rehang them.
