Chilly nighttime forecast calls for temperatures below 20 degrees

By Ryan Pfeil, Ashland.news

Ashland’s weather forecast for the next several days includes nighttime low temperatures that drop as low as the high teens, prompting city officials to open a warming shelter Saturday evening through Wednesday morning, according to a city bulletin.

The shelter, located at 48 Fifth St., will be open 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. daily from Saturday evening, Jan. 28, to Wednesday morning, Feb. 1.

“The doors will close for the night at 9 p.m. with lights out at 10 p.m.,” the bulletin reads. “This is a no-frills shelter, which means individuals should plan on providing their own bedding. Well-behaved pets are welcome.”

The National Weather Service forecast calls for several days of sub-freezing nights in Ashland, according to the agency’s website. The temperature will drop to about 27 degrees Saturday night, followed by 17 degrees on Sunday, 23 degrees on Monday, and 29 degrees on Tuesday.  The nighttime low rises above freezing Wednesday night, coming in at a still-chilly 33 degrees, the forecast shows.

NWS officials on Friday also called for a 30% chance of rain and snow Saturday night.
