The Ashland City Council will receive an update on Climate Friendly & Equitable Communities during a special business meeting Feb. 22 as local and state administrators consider related land use proposals. Updates may include the potential creation of focus groups among area residents.
Oregon lawmakers are moving toward with a proposal to declare shelter dogs and cats the state pet. If adopted, they would join a list that includes the state animal (beavers), state flower (Oregon grape), state dance (square dance), beverage (milk) and motto: “She flies with her own wings.”

An emergency shelter will open at 5 p.m. Saturday night and Monday through Thursday nights due to forecast below-freezing temperatures, the city of Ashland has announced. The shelter closes each morning — Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday — at 9 a.m. The shelter will not be open Sunday night.
