An emergency shelter will open at 5 p.m. Saturday night and Monday through Thursday nights due to forecast below-freezing temperatures, the city of Ashland has announced. The shelter closes each morning — Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday — at 9 a.m. The shelter will not be open Sunday night.

Lows Saturday through Thursday nights are forecast to be 30, 33, 27, 21, 25 and 28 degrees respectively, according to the National Weather Service forecast as of Friday evening, Feb. 10. Highs Saturday through Friday are forecast to be 48, 58, 44, 37, 42, 46 and 46. Showers are expected Saturday, with a sunny day Sunday, a chance of rain on Monday, a chance of snow on Tuesday, a mostly sunny Wednesday, partly sunny Thursday and chance of snow again on Friday.

Doors close for the night at 9 p.m., with lights out 10 p.m. This is a no-frills shelter, which means individuals should plan on providing their own bedding. Well-behaved pets are welcome. The shelter is at 48 5th St.

For additional information or if you are interested in volunteering at the shelter, contact community volunteer Avram Sacks of Options for Helping Residents of Ashland (OHRA) at 541-220-7307 or 541-631-2235.
