Continued below-freezing temps mean extreme weather shelter opening extended

Plenty of snow fell on Ashland Monday night and Tuesday morning, but little stuck. An accumulation of 2 to 3 inches had been forecast.
With weather turning to clear and cold, the extreme weather shelter has been extended one night for now. It had been set to shut Friday morning, but will now be open through Friday night, closing Saturday morning, according to a notice posted on the door of the shelter at 48 5th St.
The shelter opens when temperatures are forecast to be below freezing, 32 degrees.
Doors close for the night at 9 p.m., with lights out 10 p.m. This is a no-frills shelter, which means individuals should plan on providing their own bedding. Well-behaved pets are welcome. The shelter closes at 9 a.m.
The shelter is operated by Options for Helping Residents of Ashland (OHRA) for the city of Ashland.
Forecast lows for Tuesday through Saturday nights are 18, 23, 29, 26 and 30, according to the National Weather Service forecast as of Tuesday afternoon. The forecast highs for Wednesday through Saturday are 46, 45, 50 and 51.
