Riding Beyond is taking signups for volunteer training and four-week sessions. The Ashland nonprofit assists individuals who have experienced trauma through breast cancer treatment and, since 2021, have extended services to those who have experienced trauma related to COVID-19 and wildfires.
Two Ashland groups that need volunteers to help feed the unhoused will host a training from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11 at the Ashland Public Library.

The Native American Student Union (NASU) at Southern Oregon University (SOU) will be hosting their 32nd annual powwow April 12 and 13. The intertribal powwow will offer food, music, dancing, and opportunities for shopping from Native owned businesses.
Around a dozen volunteers worked Sunday to shape a series of mounds of earth at the Ashland Dirt Jumps park for what will become a new pump track skills area on a strip of land just west of the Bear Creek Greenway’s southern terminus near the Ashland Dog Park, just south of the Ashland Wastewater Treatment Plant and behind houses along Almeda Drive.
Ongoing research aimed at increasing the public’s understanding, appreciation, preservation and protection of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is set for this week at SOU. The research symposium will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Southern Oregon University Science Auditorium and online via Zoom.
The city of Ashland’s police volunteer program, which had around 30 volunteers before the COVID pandemic, now has only around 10. Volunteers help put extra eyes on patrol areas such as Lithia Park and the bike path and help manage special events such as parades.

After a successful production of “The Vagina Monologues” and raising more than $2,000 for Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon, Ashland actor and director Lia Dugal intends for “The Climate Monologues” to premiere in Oregon in late 2025 or early 2026 at the Bellview Grange in Ashland.
