Protesters disrupt Rep. Bentz town hall in Central Point

Wildfires, the border, Social Security and “neglected” federal forests dominated the discussion at the annual town hall held by U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz, R-Ontario, on Tuesday at The Expo in Central Point. Bentz, speaking before about 100 people, was briefly interrupted at the beginning of the town hall by protesters of the war in Gaza.

Investigators: Fire by freeway exit likely cause by cooking fire

A third of an acre fire near Exit 14 on Interstate 5 led to an arrest Monday night. The fire is believed to have been an escaped cooking fire, not started intentionally, but Jennifer Paulson was arrested at the scene and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and reckless burning, said Ashland Police Chief Tighe O’Meara.

Interim city manager could have ‘interim’ removed from job title Tuesday

Sabrina Cotta could be appointed as the permanent city manager at the Ashland City Council meeting Tuesday, according to meeting materials. Mayor Tony Graham is “seeking confirmation” for the appointment from council as Ashland City Charter Article XIII Section 1 dictates the mayor can appoint a candidate to the position with the approval of council.
