No easy answers: 2200 Ashland Street ad hoc committee parses through the possibilities

At a half circle of folding tables in the 2200 Ashland St. building Wednesday, members of an ad hoc committee set up to discuss the property’s best use met to whittle down a list of possible ideas for the property’s future. They wrestled with finding a compromise that holds in balance the needs of all Ashland residents while answering to restrictions such as building codes and available funding.

Talent residents to rally Tuesday for reliable power

Residents of Talent will gather outside Talent City Hall on Tuesday as part of an ongoing effort to voice concern and frustration at repeated power outages in the city throughout the summer. Affected residents will “meet and be heard” at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to a post in the Heart of Talent Facebook group. Those in the Wagner Creek area are encouraged to attend, the post said.

Ashland resident recalls her time in WWII-era Japanese American prison camps

“It can happen again. It can happen to somebody else. It’s all on us to prevent it from happening again.” That’s what David Loftus, son of Mitzi Asai Loftus, said of the prison camps hastily built to imprison Japanese Americans in World War II during Ashland Together’s encore presentation Monday night of Mitzi’s book, “From Thorns to Blossoms: A Japanese American Family in War and Peace.”
