Ashland Community Hospital Foundation was established in 1977 to support the work of the then 70-year-old hospital. Forty-five years later, the foundation continues its work into the 10th year of ownership by Asante, a 6,000-employee organization with hospitals in Ashland, Medford and Grants Pass serving 600,000 people in Southern Oregon and Northern California.
With turnover at the city and financial difficulties with the budget, the past year has been a challenging one for the city of Ashland. But Mayor Julie Akins is optimistic about the possibilities in 2022.

Southern Oregon University is poised to start the new year with new leadership. After serving as president of Southern Oregon University since 2016, Linda Schott retired in December and has returned to her home state of Texas. Bailey starts in the role on Jan. 15.
Planned for the 2022-23 season is a new “magic carpet,” a conveyor belt that allows people to slide onto the belt and stand on the moving “carpet.” Amazingly, a $250,000 fundraising drive was accomplished in only three weeks.

After a successful production of “The Vagina Monologues” and raising more than $2,000 for Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon, Ashland actor and director Lia Dugal intends for “The Climate Monologues” to premiere in Oregon in late 2025 or early 2026 at the Bellview Grange in Ashland.
