15th annual race and family entertainment fun- and fund-raiser features competitors decked out in Halloween garb
The Ashland Monster Dash, a race series featuring competitors decked out in Halloween garb, will return for its 15th year on Saturday, Oct. 28, near the Butler Bandshell in Lithia Park, according to a news release.
The event will feature in-person 1-mile, 5K, and 10K distances, with prizes for the top finishers in each race. “Virtual” races will also be available, with participants running a set distance anytime between Oct. 21 and 31 and uploading their times to the Monster Dash website, ashlandmonsterdash.com. Payment and registration information is also available on the website.
The 5K and 10K races start at 9 a.m., and the 1-mile race starts at 10:30 a.m.
An Activity Village near the finish line will feature family crafts, exhibits, live music, entertainment, contests and auction items from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Ashland Schools Foundation Executive Director Erica Thompson says she hopes this year’s Monster Dash will give families and community members an opportunity to connect with holiday traditions and with one another.
“We had record signups last year, and our event committee is coming up with lots of ways for the community to enjoy the day again,” says Thompson. “An exciting new addition this year is that Picadilly Cycles will be hosting a free bike valet service. This way, more participants can bike to the event knowing there will be a safe, secure and easy way to park their bike.”
The event is a collaboration between Ashland Kiwanis Club and the Ashland Schools Foundation. Funds collected at the event will go toward classroom grants in the Ashland School District, which can be used for classroom projects, materials, supplies, and specialized support.
