Take ‘one small step’ to Artemis mission talk on Sunday

ScienceWorks’ NASA ambassador to give talk on current mission to the moon

ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum will host an informational event about NASA’s Artemis mission — the space agency’s endeavors intended to return astronauts to the moon and beyond — starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland, according to a news release.

The event will coincide with the planned return of the Orion space capsule to Earth, about a month after its launch in mid-November. Its mission has taken it 280,000 miles into space, thousands of miles past the moon, over the past month.

“With this first exploration mission, NASA is leading the next steps of human exploration into deep space where astronauts will build and begin testing the systems near the Moon needed for lunar surface missions and exploration to other destinations farther from Earth, including Mars,” a NASA news release said.

Colin White

Attendees to the ScienceWorks event will watch footage about the Artemis mission in the facility theater. The museum’s NASA ambassador, Colin White, will also give a talk at 11 a.m. White was previously involved in restoring a NASA Mission Control console for the museum.

ScienceWorks will also launch its new flight simulator exhibit on Sunday, the release said. Museum admission is $12.50 for adults, $10.50 for children. The event is free for museum members. Memberships start at $25 per individual, or $70 for a family of three. Visit scienceworksmuseum.org/visit for ticket information.
