Ashland Community Food Bank collects food for residents in Talent and Ashland

Rogue Valley Times staff report

The Ashland Community Food Bank will distribute donations of nonperishable food from residents of the Rogue Valley during the annual letter carrier food drive Saturday to Talent and Ashland neighbors in need.

On Saturday, May 11, postal carriers will collect canned, dried and preserved food left in or near participants’ mailboxes and deliver the goods to the food bank, where the items will be sorted and distributed to community members needing nourishment.

The food bank has experienced a 145% increase in food insecurity over the last year, according to its staff.

Each year, during the second Saturday of May, letter carriers across the U.S. head on their routes to collect food donations to benefit local pantries through the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

The food drive started in 1993 and has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, filling food bank shelves across the country.

For questions or instructions, such as what to donate, where to leave it and other inquiries, call the Ashland Community Food Bank at 541-488-9544.
