Rogue Theater Company presents Barry Kraft’s analysis of three plays

By Lee Juillerat for Ashland.news

A series of six workshops about three plays by William Shakespeare are being offered with Barry Kraft, a long-time actor with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and noted Shakespearean scholar.

“There are few people on this planet who know the Bard better than Barry,” notes Jessica Sage of the Rogue Theater Company, which is presenting the series.

Kraft has been an actor and lecturer at OSF for 31 seasons and dramaturge for nearly 60 productions. He has acted in 88 full productions of all of Shakespeare’s 38 plays in more than 100 rolls. He has written “After Dinner Shakespeare” and “Shakespeare Insult Generator.”

Along with acting for OSF, Kraft’s other acting credits include the Colorado and Utah Shakespeare festivals, The Old Globe in San Diego, Berkeley Shakespeare Festival, San Jose Repertory Theatre, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, American Conservatory Theater and Marin Shakespeare Company, along with other theater groups.

Sessions will run  from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays starting June 4. Participants have their choice of attending the programs in person at a private home, by a live stream interactive Zoom session and/or a recording. Each session will cover new material.

“We go through each play scene by scene. I omit nothing,” Kraft said.

Plays discussed include “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” June 4 and 5, “Much Ado About Nothing” June 11 and 12, and “The Tempest” June 18 and 19.

The per person cost per weekend is $40, or $100 for the entire three-weekend session. Tickets can be purchased through the Rogue Theater website at roguetheatercompany.com or by calling 541-205-9190.
