Ashland science museum to host spooky family fun, followed by a costume dance party
The ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum will hold a “Monster Ball” Halloween celebration from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the 1500 E. Main St. facility, according to a news release.
The event will boast numerous attractions, with family-centric fun slated from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by additional fun from 7 to 9 p.m., the release said.
Attractions will include a Monster Carnival from Ashland Aerial Arts, a children and family costume contest, screenings of vintage Halloween shorts in the “Sinister Cinema,” and music from DJ Veach in the Ghoulish Graveyard.
TreeHouse Books will host a “potion mixery” inside the museum, with more “grownup potions” available at the Scary Saloon’s no-host bar, the release said. Attendees will be able to participate in hands-on experiments with museum staff in Frankenstein’s Lab. Anyone who brings a carved pumpkin to be part of the Great Wall of Pumpkins will be entered into a prize raffle. There will also be a trick-or-treat treasure hunt.
From 7 to 9 p.m., organizers will host a costume contest for teens and couples, with additional vintage horror films screened in the Sinister Cinema. Food trucks will be on site.
Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the museum, online at scienceworksmuseum.org, and at TreeHouse Books, 15 N. Main St., Ashland.
The event is intended to honor the memory of “beloved neighbor and friend Sarah Wood, who loved Halloween and left us far too soon,” the release said. Wood, who “loved Halloween and all things spooky,” was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer in 201 and died the day after Halloween in 2020.
Money raised will support ScienceWorks and multiple charities, including Southern Oregon Candlelighters, Tumor Hater, The Sparrow Club and The Ethan Jostad Foundation.
