Volunteers required to take about 20 hours of instruction over four days before joining CERT

Want to help your neighbors in the event of a disaster? The city of Ashland will host a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Academy this fall.
The academy provides local residents with free training on how to learn how to help themselves, their families and ultimately the community in the event of a disaster. CERT basic training is offered to the Ashland community twice a year.
The course consists of approximately 20 hours of instruction that covers a wide array of topics. The course builds a solid foundational knowledge of disaster operations.
Training modules include:
• CERT organization & ICS (Incident Command System)
• Disaster medical operations
• Disaster preparedness
• Disaster psychology
• Fire safety and hazardous materials
• Urban search and rescue
• Terrorism awareness
• Two-way radio communications
• Real-life disaster simulation
The fall 2023 schedule is (participants must attend and complete all training modules in full to become certified):
- Friday, Oct. 6, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 7, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday, Oct. 13, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 14, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
