At present, listings in the city are down slightly from last year but countywide numbers are up

Ashland is buzzing with new energy, and it’s a joy to see familiar faces and new ones filling our streets, restaurants and trails daily. Having been born and raised here, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformations and growth our town has gone through, including the ups and downs of activity throughout town. It’s both nostalgic and exciting to see how Ashland has evolved while still retaining its charm and community spirit.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is a tradition that continues to bring life and vibrancy to Ashland. It’s not just about the plays, which are undoubtedly spectacular. It’s also about the sense of community and shared cultural experience it fosters. Year after year, the festival draws crowds from all over, many of whom return repeatedly, spellbound by the magic of theater under the Oregon sky.

But it’s not just the arts that are thriving. Ashland has become a haven for outdoor enthusiasts with its world-renowned trail systems. These trails aren’t just paths in the woods; they are gateways to breathtaking views and challenging adventures that beckon cyclists, runners and hikers from around the globe. We host races and events that draw competitors of every level, adding to our town’s reputation as a premier destination for outdoor sports.

As Ashland grows in popularity, so does its real estate market. Despite a slight decrease in active listings — down 2.3% from last year — the demand for homes in our picturesque town remains high. With a median home price of around $514,000, our real estate market is bustling, driven by both longtime Oregonians and newcomers from all over the country, including a notable number from California. They are drawn not only by the natural beauty and cultural richness but also by the promise of a community that values sustainability, arts and active living.

Looking beyond Ashland, Jackson County as a whole has also experienced shifts in its real estate dynamics. Although some areas have seen more dramatic changes, the overall trend shows a growing interest across the county. The county’s total number of active listings has increased by 14.5%, with Medford, for example, seeing a significant rise in demand. This indicates a broader regional growth, reflecting an increased appreciation for the lifestyle and opportunities available throughout Southern Oregon.

People move to Ashland for many reasons. Some come for the exceptional cultural experiences offered by the Shakespeare Festival and our multitude of arts events. Others are attracted by the incredible outdoor lifestyle, which includes peaceful hikes and competitive racing on our famous trails. Many are seeking a community that offers a slower pace of life, where you can truly savor each moment without sacrificing the vibrancy and amenities of a larger city.

In Ashland, we cherish our traditions while embracing the new dynamics that each day brings. Whether you’re looking to start a new chapter in your life, find a retreat from the bustling pace of a big city or want a change of scenery with a strong sense of community, Ashland welcomes you. It’s a place where everyone can find their niche and feel at home, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Oregon and a community that thrives on creativity and connection.
