Free online sessions offer care planning information
Most people have a parent, spouse, partner, sibling, or friend who will need care supports at some point, whether they live nearby or at a distance — or will require care themselves. Maybe the need will be short, such as recovery from an acute illness or surgery, or maybe it will last for years. It helps to have some guidance so you can make informed choices when it comes to such critical decisions.
To help with that, Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes, as part of its Vital Issues Forums series, is offering discussions called “Plan4Care: Values and Choices,” which are moderated by nationally recognized gerontological nurse Heather Young.
The free online series discussing care needs for those aging or recovering from illness or surgery picks up Sunday, Jan. 30, with discussion of “Developing and Communicating an Action Plan,” with panelists Robert Good, Fred Grewe and Joanne Kliejunas.
The final discussion, “Identifying Resources for Implementing a Care Plan” with panelists Brooke Fredericks, Shelly Fritz and Constance Wilkerson, is set for Feb. 6.
Both run from 2 to 3:30 p.m., are accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, and are free for all. Each program focuses on a different aspect of care needs and include practical guidance for navigating, planning, and finding resources.
The first discussion, on “Anticipating Care Needs and Considering Personal Values,” was held on Jan. 23.
Registration is available at inside.sou.edu/olli/. An email confirmation will include a unique Zoom Webinar access link, which cannot be shared. If you would like colleagues, friends and family to participate, invite them to register. All are welcome.
