Sugeet Posey passed peacefully on his 83rd birthday, Jan. 5. He is survived by his brother, Robert Posey of Seattle; his former wife, Sarva Posey of Germany; and his nephew James Russell “Dodger” Posey of Milpitas, California.
Sugeet was born in Evanston, Illinois, son of Rollin Benne Posey and Elizabeth Dykstra Posey. He graduated from Northwestern University and began a career in production at WTOP-TV, a CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C. While at WTOP, he received special recognition for his program development.
Concurrently, Sugeet completed a master’s degree in the School of Speech at Catholic University. His thesis
involved directing “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” using deaf actors and dancers.
He later became command information officer for the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he created a multimedia presentation on the “New Walter Reed.” He was awarded three Broadcast Awards for excellence in journalism and the Thomas Jefferson Award by the Department of the Army.
Sugeet later traveled to Pune, India, where he became a “sannyasin” (follower) of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Between 1988 and 1997, he served as an art consultant with the Lahaina and Napua Galleries on Maui in Hawaii.
He then moved to Ashland, where he developed Creative Visions, a successful feng shui business. Sugeet was also active in the Mankind Project and AA.
He was a volunteer and passionate supporter of Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at SOU and Britt Festival classical concerts, a lover of cats and dogs and the occasional human, an irascible movie critic and the owner of a seriously quirky sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 25, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Community Hall at 1615 Clark Ave., Ashland.
