Richard (Dick) Gaige Titus, 94, passed away peacefully at Celia’s House, Medford, Oregon on Feb. 21, 2025, with family surrounding him. Dick was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest of three boys to Edward Gaige Titus and Sophia May (Isaacson) Titus.
Dick graduated from high school in 1947 and went on to the University of Utah as a Business major until the Korean Conflict interrupted his education. Dick joined the Army and was stationed in Japan. He was fascinated by the culture and beauty. After he was discharged from the army in 1953 he returned to the University of Utah to study architecture, receiving his BA in 1957 and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1959.
During his first marriage, 1953 – 1972, they adopted three children, Matt, Susan and Jennifer.
After meeting Karen in 1974, Dick moved to Southern California in 1978, and they were married in 1979. He continued his Architectural Career and added his own general construction company, TA Construction.
After retiring in 1995 Dick went on several mission trips to Kenya, Cameroon, and Kawagoe, Japan.
Dick and Karen moved to Ashland, Oregon, in 1998, where Dick designed and built their existing home. In 2003, Dick began a new chapter in his life. He was called to pastor the Gold Hill United Methodist Church. Dick served there for seven years, during which time he attended Claremont School of Theology.
Dick enjoyed playing tennis and croquet.
Dick is survived by his wife, Karen; and children, Matt Titus, Susan Titus and Jennifer Jones; and four grandchildren.
Memorial contributions in the name of Richard Gaige Titus may be made to the Ashland First United Methodist Church or Celia’s House, Medford.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at the Ashland First United Methodist Church.
