New terms officially start Jan. 1, but first council meeting not expected until Jan. 21

Members of Ashland City Council and the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission voted into office in the November election were sworn in Monday afternoon in Ashland Council Chambers.
Councilors Jeff Dahle and Dylan Bloom, who had both been appointed to the council, each were elected for the first time, while Councilor Doug Knauer was sworn in as a city councilor for the first time. Knauer previously served as a member of the city Planning Commission.
Mayor Tonya Graham, who also had been appointed to her post, and Councilor Gina DuQuenne, who was first elected in 2020, both handily won uncontested races.
Terms for the new council and mayor officially begin Jan. 1, 2025, but they are not expected to convene for the first time until the Jan. 21 council business meeting when the council chair election will be held and committee liaison appointments made, according to the most recent council schedule.
Mike Gardiner previously served as an APRC commissioner but resigned in January of 2022 and won reelection in 2024. Daniel Weiner was sworn in as a commissioner for the first time and is a physician. The new APRC commission will convene again Wednesday, Jan. 8, according to the city’s meeting calendar.
