The best high school downhill skiers from around Oregon will converge at the Mt. Ashland Ski Area Wednesday through Friday for the Oregon High School 2024-2025 Alpine Ski Racing State Championships.
”This prestigious event will bring top high school athletes from across Oregon to compete on their legendary slopes, reinforcing Mt. Ashland’s reputation as a premier alpine skiing destination,” said General Manager Andrew Mast.
It’s the fourth time Mt. Ashland has hosted the championship, with the previous years being 2020, 2016, and 2007. Over the three days, more 350 high school alpine racers from across Oregon — along with their families, coaches, and supporters — will participate in the intense training and competition.
“This championship will not only highlight the skill and dedication of these young athletes, but also bring significant energy and economic impact to the region. These talented young competitors will showcase their skills in both men’s and women’s slalom and giant slalom races, held on Upper and Lower Tempest and Lower Winter ski trails,” Gast said in announcing the event.
Competitors will have the opportunity to train on Wednesday, followed by competition on Thursday and Friday. In addition to the races on Mt. Ashland, other activities in Ashland will include special events at Ashland Hills Hotel and the Historic Ashland Armory. “These gatherings will provide opportunities for athletes, families, and the skiing community to come together in celebration of Alpine racing.”
Along with being a hub for local Alpine racing events, Mt. Ashland has hosted races for the Mt. Ashland Racing Association and the High School Alpine Southern League along with competition for the Ashland and Southern Oregon High School snowboard teams.
“The opportunity to host the state championships marks an exciting milestone in the ski area’s evolution, as it continues its mission to support competitive racing and Alpine recreation as a whole,” Gast said, adding, “We are beyond excited to welcome Oregon’s best high school Alpine racers back to Mt. Ashland for the 2025 State Championships. This event not only showcases the talent and dedication of young athletes but also highlights Mt. Ashland’s legacy as a hub for ski racing in Oregon. Our mountain’s challenging terrain, strong racing culture, and tight-knit community make it the perfect venue for this championship.”
The ski area will be open to the public on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. when, “Guests are encouraged to experience the energy of championship ski racing up close. “
While at Mt. Ashland, along with the races, visitors are encouraged to enjoy the Gemütlichkeit Grill and T-Bar Lounge, or take advantage of private lessons with the ski area’s expert snowsports team.
