Letter: ‘If we wait, it might be too late to reverse the damage’

May 20, 2022

I want to turn people in Ashland on to the amazing worldwide movement “Save Soil.” It is a call to save soil from extinction, a worldwide desertification that is happening as a result of overuse of the soil for agricultural purposes, use of pesticides of various kinds (which destroys the the microbes which made the soil rich and fertile) and excessive plowing, which exposes the soil to sun and wind, turning the soil into sand.

It is a worldwide situation and the movement seeks to create awareness of the need for legislatures to create guidelines and care to reverse this problem in a timely manner. Everyone is being urged to request our governing bodies to be made aware of this problem now, when there is a possibility of taking some action to correct the agricultural ways in which the soil has been used and abused to create the situation of desertification.

If we wait, it might be too late to reverse the damage that is already there and can take hundreds of years for the soil to recover. To find out more about Save Soil, go to Conscious Planet.org.
