Cross streets intersecting Glenview Drive and Hillcrest Street will also close for road work

A handful of Ashland’s streets will experience short closures this week due to road maintenance projects, according to a release from the city of Ashland

Glenview Drive between Granite Street and Hillcrest Street and Almond Street between Manzanita Street and Church Street will close at some time on Wednesday, July 31, and Thursday, Aug. 1. All roads intersecting Glenview Drive and Hillcrest Street will be included in the closure, the release said.

Jackson County, in conjunction with Ashland Public Works, will perform routine maintenance to improve the roads using a chip seal process.  The process prevents water from draining into the road, fills minor cracks, provides a “highly skid resistant surface,” even when wet, and costs less than other methods of road maintenance, according to the release.

After a road has been identified for maintenance, failing areas are patched, cracks are filled with a rubberized filler and then an emulsified mixture of liquid asphalt is applied to the street surface. Immediately after a gravel mixture is spread over and embedded into the liquid asphalt with rolling machines. The mixture takes two days to cure after which a “fog sealant” is applied to seal in the rock and “give it that finished black look,” the release said.

All traffic will be prohibited in the area during the project with the exception of allowance for emergency vehicles if needed, the release said.
