Sunday Service: Time for Jubilee

Every fifty years in the Jewish calendar is a year of Jubilee. Debts are forgiven, people return to their homeland, slaves were freed, and gratitude and celebration are made part of the sacred calendar. What does the practice of Jubilee help us remember and accomplish? How is Jubilee tied to justice?

“Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan.” -Leviticus 25:10
