Driver cited after car ignites blaze off Grandview Drive early Friday; no injuries reported

A car crash in north Ashland led to a house fire and an evacuation of nearby homes shortly after midnight on Thursday, Aug. 28. The incident was reported at 12:29 a.m. near where Grandview and Skycrest drives and Sunnyview Street meet, according to the PulsePoint app.
According to an Ashland Fire & Rescue Facebook post on Friday, Aug. 29, a driver “failed to navigate a curve and rolled into the yard” of a home. The car caught fire, which quickly spread to the home, the post said.
The Facebook post noted that the occupants of the home that caught fire and the driver were unharmed. According to the post, Jackson County Fire District 5 and the Ashland Police Department helped put the fire out and evacuate neighboring homes. The Talent Police Department also assisted with incident, according to an APD Facebook post.
Ashland Police Chief Tighe O’Meara said the police log noted the driver of the car did not show signs of impairment. He was cited for careless driving and driving on a suspended license.
O’Meara said the fire was caused by a careless driver who was driving too fast.
“His actions have consequences,” O’Meara said. “In this case, a family is removed from their home, and in the middle of fire season. This could have ended much more disastrously than it did.”
