Wasabi Trail grand opening scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday

Ashland.news staff report

Weekends are for mountain biking, and if you happen to be in town on Saturday, the city of Ashland has announced the unveiling a new mountain biking trail.

A rider gives the thumbs up at a switchback on Wasabi Trail near Wonder Trail.

Named Wasabi, a “spicy flow trail,” the Rogue Valley Mountain Bike Association (RVMBA), Ashland Parks and Recreation and the city of Ashland have issued an open invitation to stop by and celebrate from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20.

Representatives will be set up at the bottom of the Wasabi Trail, near the Lower Wonder trailhead and parking lot (near the swim reservoir in Lithia Park). Refreshments will be provided, and feedback welcome on how users enjoy the new trail. The Wasabi Trail is designed for beginners to intermediate bikers, according to the city, but is “spicy enough” for all riders to enjoy.

There are three optional technical features for advanced riders, according to the release.

Those interested in attending can find Wasabi by heading up Lower Wonder trail in Ashland and look for the two bailouts to the left, according to the RVMB website.  The first one is for a quick lap, the second is higher up the mountain but gives you the full Wasabi experience.
