The group also awarded gift cards to 200 teachers

The Ashland Schools Foundation awarded $47,019 to the Ashland School District earlier this month, with donated funds supporting “35 unique projects and initiatives across Ashland school sites,” according to a news release.

“This was an exceptionally exciting round of Classroom Impact Grant applications,” said ASF executive director Erica Thompson. “We’re seeing a number of proposals requesting materials for in-depth, creative, hands-on activities that are certain to engage and inspire students, particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, known as STEM.”

The projects and initiatives impacted by the funds include hands-on classroom lessons about mycology and soil remediation at Ashland High School’s alternative education program, new cookware for the Ashland Middle School’s life skills program, and a student-made mural at Bellview Elementary honoring Indigenous peoples.

Grant funds came from donations and the recent Monster Dash road race event, which raised $40,000 in October, the release said.

A $10,000 donation from Alan and Rebecca DeBoer was gifted directly to the school district’s 200 teachers, who each received a $50 Amazon gift card.
