Two-week closure set to start Tuesday while work done on koi pond

By Morgan Rothborne, Ashland.news

The Japanese Garden in Lithia Park will close for maintenance on the koi pond for half of April.

The garden will close Tuesday, April 2, and is expected to reopen around April 15, or “as soon as maintenance concludes,” according to a release from Ashland Communications Officer Dorinda Cottle.

Ashland Parks & Recreation staff, the release says, apologize for the closure coinciding with springtime in the garden, but say the work needs to be done before warm weather contributes to algae growth in the pond, potentially affecting the health of the fish.

When the work is finished, the garden will have a cleaner, clearer pond.
