Ashland Scouts offer Christmas tree, wreath pickup

Members of Scout Troop 112 gather Christmas trees for chipping and reuse during a past year's collection. This year's pickup will be on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Trees and wreaths should be out on curbs on Jan. 6 for pickup Saturday, Jan. 7

Wondering how to dispose of your Christmas tree once the holidays have passed?

Ashland Troop 112 has you covered.

About 80 Scouts from Troop 112 will pick up trees from homes on Saturday, Jan. 7. Individuals who would like their tree picked up should put their tree on the curb outside their home on Friday, Jan. 6, so the troop can start picking them up for recycling starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7. On that day, drivers are asked to watch for slow-moving trucks, trailers and Scout tree tossers.

The service is free to residents of Ashland. It benefits the citizens of Ashland, the boys and girls of Troop 112, and the environment, according to the troop webpage

Donations to Scout Troop 112 will be gladly accepted, though they should not be left on the trees. Checks may be made out to Troop 112 and mailed to P.O. Box 839, Ashland 97520. Donations are used to help the scouts go to summer camp.

The event is sponsored by Ashland Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Ashland Parks & Recreation, Recology of Ashland, All-in-One Rentals of Talent and the parents and friends of Troop 112.

Trees will be chipped by the Ashland Parks Department crew and used as mulch in Ashland city parks. Last year, 1,027 trees and 134 wreaths were recycled.
