Katherine "Kathy" Menzies Meek
February 10, 2023

November 26, 1947 — January 30, 2023

Katherine “Kathy” Menzies Meek, 75, died peacefully on Jan. 30, 2023, in Ashland, Oregon with her daughter at her side.

Kathy was born Nov. 26, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the youngest child of Leslie and Betty Meek. Her siblings are sister Elizabeth and brother Leslie Jr. After her mother’s death, when Kathy was 13, her father remarried and welcomed stepmother, Peggy, and step siblings Reuben, Dan, Peter, Mardi, Hope, and George.

Kathy’s favorite childhood memories included spending time with her beloved grandmothers Abby and Nonny, horseback riding and sailing at Four Way Lodge summer camp in northern Michigan, and getting into mischief with her newly extended group of siblings.

Kathy graduated from University of Cincinnati with a degree in education in 1969. After graduation, she married Paul Marokus, and they had two children, Asa and Celeste. The family moved to Ashland in 1974; Kathy loved spending time with her young children on Mount Ashland, swimming and sailing at Emigrant Lake, and attending the Ashland 4th of July parade. In the 2010s she was thrilled to become a grandmother to the amazing Dublin, Brixton, and Sasha.

Kathy was very creative and loved all types of arts and crafts. She particularly found joy in illustrating cards for her friends and loved ones, painting, tie dying, and embroidery. She had a quick wit, and loved to exchange jokes with friends. For fun she enjoyed a good game of Scrabble, participating in a sing-a-long, gardening, and cooking old family recipes.

Kathy adored her family and friends. Her love for her family and friends sustained her until the end of her life.

Kathy is survived by her daughter Celeste (Todd) and son Asa (Nicole); grandchildren Dublin, Brixton, and Sasha; sisters Brett, Mardi (Richard), and Hope (Robert); brothers Leslie, Peter (Cathie), George (Mary), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Reuben (Vicky) and Dan.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
