Southern Oregon Animal Advocates hopes landlord Adrienne Hill’s allowance of pets will become a trend

Rogue Valley animal advocacy nonprofit Southern Oregon Animal Advocates has named Adrienne Hill as its “Landlord of the Year.”

Hill, who manages rental properties in southern Oregon, northern California, and Mexico, allows tenants to have pets, according to a news release. It’s a decision SOAA officials hope becomes more of a trend to reduce to the number of animals in shelters.

“It’s about compassion for animals, which has been a life-long priority for me,” a statement from Hill reads. “I hope this award can influence other landlords to accommodate good-hearted tenants and also reduce the homeless pet problem.”

SOAA officials recommended alternative strategies for other landlords who have adopted no-pets policies as a way to mitigate potential damage, the release said. They include requiring a pet deposit separate from the usual deposit, requiring pets be licensed with the, imposing limits on the type, size, and amount of pets, and requiring regular walkthroughs to check for damage before it gets out of hand.
