City, county and state firefighters quickly contained fire Saturday morning

A grass fire along the Bear Creek Greenway was put out just before 11 a.m. this morning by firefighters from Ashland Fire & Rescue, Jackson County Fire District No. 5 and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), according to a news release from Ashland Fire & Rescue. The fire was just west of Ashland Pond, north of Bear Creek and between the creek and Eagle Mill Road, according to a locator map posted by ODF.

Firefighters were able to drive down the greenway to get to the fire, which was contained quickly at one-half acre. The cause is under investigation.

On arrival, incident commanders determined no evacuations were needed.

Size of the fire, which was just outside city limits, was estimated at a half-acre of mostly grass blackberry bushes.
