The Ashland City Council will review the final draft of a plan to protect the community from wildfires and hear a proposal to build affordable housing during a pair of meetings next week.
During a study session on Monday, July 14, the council will review the final version of a Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which outlines the city’s commitment to preventing and responding to threats of wildfire, along with ensuring equitable access to services and resources.
During the Ashland City Council’s regular business meeting on Tuesday, July 15, councilors will hear a proposal to build affordable housing in the city’s Beach Creek subdivision. The presentation will be given by representatives from Trusted Homes, a community land trust, and Taylored Elements Construction, an Ashland company.
According to the proposal, the plan is to build up to eight homes that would remain “permanently affordable” through a 99-year lease controlled by the nonprofit organization. The proposal states the homes would be offered at or below 80% of the area’s median price and anticipates the homes being available for sale in 2027.
The Monday study session starts at 5:30 p.m. and the Tuesday business meeting begins at 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Ashland City Council chamber, 1175 E. Main St. The meetings are cablecast live on Channel 9 (or 180), streamed online at rvtv.sou.edu (RVTV Prime), and posted online at bit.ly/coavideos the day after the meeting.
Meeting agendas and materials can be found online.
