Word Puzzle: Acrostic #01: Rain Gear

July 15, 2025

This bonus pilot “variety” puzzle is a mini-acrostic with a quirky quote about Oregon culture
— something new this week to exercise your brain. An acrostic word puzzle typically has four parts:
1. quotation (top) with numbered blanks and spaces — words may break across rows!
2. quote attribution (under #1, and first letters in #3);
3. clued answers (under #1&2) labeled A-…;
4. clues (bottom: .pdf; right: interactive) labeled A-…

To solve an acrostic, read a clue (#4), fill in its answer (#3), then fill in each letter
— identified by its number and clue label — in corresponding box in quote (#1).
Conversely, notice missing letter patterns in quote (#1, ala “Wheel of Fortune”),
then fill guessed letters in the corresponding clue entry (#3).

When finished, read first letters of clue entries (#3) from A-… to discover author and optional source of quote (#2).
We appreciate your feedback about word puzzles: crosswords, last week’s pilot spiral, this acrostic; future: snake charmer, other types…
