North Applegate Fire is on North Applegate Road north of Provolt

Fire engines, a bulldozer, helicopter and aircraft tackled a 3-5-acre fire reported around 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the 16100 block of North Applegate Road north of Provolt in the Applegate Valley, according to ODF, Watch Duty and PulsePoint reports.

The Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District, Applegate Fire District, Rural Metro Fire are responding to the North Applegate Fire.

Two ODF-contracted helicopters and a local bulldozer are on scene, according to an ODF report. Ground resources are working to make access and, once on scene, an aggressive initial attack will begin.

Forward progress of the fire had been stopped, the incident commander reported at about 8:30 p.m. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for an extended time to extensive mop-up.

Helicopters conducted water bucket drops on the fire, which was burning in grass, brush and timber.
