Two free waste reduction events coming to Rogue Valley this weekend

Recology Ashland customers can dispose of hazardous waste, green debris

Recology residential customers needing to get rid of hazardous waste and/or green debris have two free disposal options this weekend.

An ID check will be required for both dropoff events, according to a news release.

Hazardous waste event

Residential customers in Ashland, Talent, and Jackson County can drop off hazardous waste from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Rogue Transfer & Recycling, 8001 Table Rock Road, White City, the release said.

Accepted items will include:

  • Cleaning supplies (window cleaner, drain cleaner, bathroom cleaner, anything containing bleach or ammonia)
  • Pesticides and insecticides
  • Swimming pool chemicals
  • Weed killers not currently approved for use
  • Paint remover
  • Old or toxic wood preservatives
  • Light ballasts
  • Alkaline and rechargeable batteries
  • Thermostats containing mercury
  • E-Cigarettes
  • Vehicle fuel
  • Fire extinguishers

Items that will NOT be accepted include:

  • Paint (see paintcare.org for more info)
  • 55-gallon drums
  • Fluorescent light tubes
  • Medical or biological waste
  • Asbestos (see asbestos for more info)
  • Propane tanks
  • Antifreeze
  • Explosives
  • Radioactive materials
  • Ammunition
  • Commercial or industrial waste
  • Waste in containers larger than 5 gallons

Green debris event

Ashland Recology customers wishing to drop off green debris can do so from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Valley View Transfer Station, 3000 N. Valley View Road, Ashland.

Accepted items include:

  • Leaves
  • Small branches
  • Brush
  • Pine needles
  • Compostable yard debris

Items that will NOT be accepted include:

  • Trash
  • Hazardous wastes
  • Stumps
  • Logs
  • Plywood
  • Treated lumber
