11th annual all-ages event features dropping of balloons — and eggs

Ashland.news staff report

Why wait for midnight? For that matter, why wait for Tuesday to have a little fun marking the end of one year and beginning of the next?

The “Noon Year’s Eve” party gets started at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum in Ashland.

This marks the 11th annual celebration of an all-ages event, where guests countdown to noon to ring in the new year. Special guests include Ashland Aerial Arts, Daydreams Face Painting, the Super Smash Burgers food truck, and more.

This event is an annual community favorite, with expected attendance of more than 500 people. Back again this year will be the signature hands-on engineering activity the Egg Drop, along with new exhibits.

Activities take place inside ScienceWorks, with two balloon drop countdowns right at noon. One of the two balloon drops is a sensory-friendly countdown in Da Vinci’s Garage, available for guests who enjoy a quieter experience. Immediately following the balloon drops, attention turns to building vehicles for the “Eggs-tronauts,” with the egg drops scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase from Super Smash Burgers and the Hula Grill food trucks.

Admission is free for ScienceWorks members. Non-members are $12.50 for adults, $10.50 for children; discounts are available for large groups, military members, and teachers.

ScienceWorks is at 1500 E. Main St., Ashland. The celebration is slated to wrap up at 2 p.m.

Event and admission details are available at scienceworksmuseum.org.
