Patricia Jean Seibel was born in Centralia, Illinois, to Eunice Mary (Farthing) and Edgar Meredith Seibel. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1946, attended MacMurray Women’s College in Jacksonville, Illinois, and earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1950.
Patty taught Elementary School music in Portland, Oregon, then worked as a stewardess for United Air Lines. In 1951, she met her future husband, United pilot Anthony Romeo, in Los Angeles. They married in December 1952. Throughout their married life, Patty and Tony lived in New Hampshire, Illinois, Colorado, California and Oregon.
Patty was always active in the community: volunteering for art museums, libraries and many other organizations. She taught cooking classes, hosted countless gatherings and opened her home to the community — church groups, exchange students, and college students invited for home-cooked meals. She and her family enjoyed cycling, backpacking, tennis, hiking and skiing.
Once retired, they opened a bed-and-breakfast, The Romeo Inn, in Ashland, Oregon. Patty was the consummate hostess, serving freshly baked goods each morning, sherry in the afternoons, and operating a cooking school with daughter Julia. She served on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival board, volunteered at the Tudor Guild Shop, and was a member of the bicycle police patrol for the city of Ashland.
The Romeos returned to Colorado in the early 2000s. They were active in their Lowry neighborhood and joined the congregation of Montview Presbyterian Church. Patty loved to travel, taking many trips with Tony throughout the United States and abroad, including their favorite destination, Kauai.
Patty was preceded in death by her daughter, Gina-Marie Purdy, and husband of 70 years, Anthony Charles Romeo. She is survived by her children Jeffrey Romeo (Betsy), Julia Haen (Tim) and Chandler Romeo (Reed Weimer), 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; she is also survived by her brother, Edgar Seibel, and his sons Michael and Jonathan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Montview Presbyterian Church in Denver, Colorado, with a reception following.
