Ukrainian president calls for global protests to mark one-month anniversary of Russian invasion

A rally marking the one-month anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is planned for 6 p.m. today, March 24, on the Ashland Plaza, ORD2 Indivisible announced this morning.

According to multiple news reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for global protests of the invasion, which began Feb. 24.

“Make yourself visible and heard,” he said in English during a multilingual video address Wednesday, according to a report in the Washington Post. “Say that people matter, freedom matters. Peace matters. Ukraine matters.”

ORD2 Indivisible is a progressive organization with about 2,000 activists in Oregon Congressional District 2, according to its website, ord2indivisible.org, which says some 3,800 “Indivisible” organizations were started by January 2017 after publication of “Indivisible: A Practical Guide to Resisting the Trump Agenda” after the 2016 election.

Terrie Martin, Teresa Safay and group co-founder Bret Levick are on the ORD2 steering committee, its site says.

“Show your standing. Come from your offices, your homes, your schools and universities. Come in the name of peace,” Zelensky said, according to a report on the Axios news site. “Come with Ukrainian symbols to support Ukraine, to support freedom, to support life. Make yourselves visible and heard. Say that people matter, freedom matters, peace matters, Ukraine matters.”
