Steven Roy Maryanoff, beloved brother to Bruce Eliot Maryanoff and friend to many people around Ashland, passed away peacefully on June 18 at the age of 75 in his private home in Ashland.
Steven will be remembered for his kindness to many people in his community and elsewhere, and for his gentle spirit that touched many lives.
He was born in Philadelphia on March 5, 1949, to Hyman and Esther Maryanoff. He was two years younger than his brother.
Steven grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Northeast High School in 1966. Back then, in his teen years, he was an avid citizens band radio operator. After some time in technical school, he worked for various microprocessor producers, such as Fairchild Semiconductor, Texas Instruments, Hewlett-Packard, and Intel, where he contributed to the design and fabrication of microchips.
Steven had a deep passion for the environment, especially its protection and preservation, and he endeavored to maintain a minimal carbon footprint. He was very fond of owls.
Steven had a boundless appreciation of Renaissance art and poetry, with a special love for the works of William Shakespeare, which probably led to his settling in Ashland in 2007. He was active in the Buddhist community in and around Ashland.
Steven never married, had no children, and is survived by his brother Bruce, sister-in-law Cyndie, numerous cousins, and special friends. His body will be cremated in Ashland and his ashes will be ceremoniously scattered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.
