University launches a new search for permanent replacement for Greg Perkinson

Ashland.news staff report

Southern Oregon University will have an interim vice president of Finance and Administration with local ties to Rogue Community College this June.

The university announced earlier this week it has hired former RCC President Peter Angstadt as interim vice president of Finance and Administration, and plans are in place for Angstadt to start in the role on June 3.

A national university search to replace former Vice President of Finance and Administration Greg Perkinson didn’t produce a mutual fit for the role in a long term capacity, SOU President Rick Bailey said in a statement emailed to university supporters. The university plans to relaunch a new national search this summer to fill the role on a long-term basis.

“We’ve been looking far and wide, and I am really excited that we have someone who is so deeply well respected in our community who has graciously agreed to jump in and serve as our interim VPFA until that search is complete,” Bailey said during a recent SOU Board of Trustees regular meeting held at SOU’s Hannon Library.

Angstadt served as president of RCC from 2004 to 2016 and worked extensively with SOU during that time. He currently serves as chair of the Asante Board of Directors and secretary on the board of Rogue Credit Union, and has served on many local community boards, according to the hiring announcement from SOU President Rick Bailey. Angstadt has also served as president of Colorado Northwestern Community College, chief financial officer and Dean of College Services at Clackamas Community College, as well as two terms as mayor of Pocatello, Idaho between 1990 and 1998.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Colorado State University as well as two master’s degrees — one in higher education administration from Colorado State University and a Master’s of Business Administration from Idaho State University. He earned a doctoral degree in educational policy and management from University of Oregon.
