Wireless communication facility would be on top of SOU Science Building

The proposed installation of a wireless communication facility at Southern Oregon University will be discussed at a public meeting Thursday.

Verizon will host the meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. March 28 in the Rogue River Room of Stevenson Union at SOU. The public will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed installation which will be “behind a rooftop screened wall,” if implemented, according to a public meeting notice submitted to Ashland.news

The SOU Science Building is at lower left in this campus map, just right of the intersection of Ashland and Roca streets.

In a text message, SOU Director of Communications Joe Mosley stated there are two cell tower projects proposed on the campus, one on the Science Building and one near Raider stadium. Neither are university projects.

“The proposals are between the cell providers and the city,” he said.

Communications staff from Verizon could not be immediately reached for comment. An attempt to reach Ashland Public Works Director Scott Fleury met with an automated out-of-office response.
