Applications due by April 1

Those looking to get their voices heard about local recreation issues in Ashland, take note.

Applications are now open to apply for two positions on the Recreation Division Advisory Committee (RDAC), in an effort to increase representation and capacity, according to a news release from the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission (APRC) issued Tuesday.

The group advises the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission on all things recreation, including Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink, Daniel Meyer Memorial Pool, North Mountain Park Nature Center, as well as indoor and outdoor facility rentals.

The Recreation Division Advisory Committee is made up of nine members, several of whom are program participants or community partners. There will also be two Ashland Parks & Recreation commissioners on the committee. Terms for the committee are three years and no member is allowed to serve more than two consecutive terms.

RDAC members are appointed by Ashland Parks & Recreation Commissioner. Meetings are held every other month. Committee members work in collaboration with APRC staff, according to a news release. RDAC is able to develop its own strategic plan and revise its mission and vision statement concurrent with the adopted goals of the commissioners, according to the release.

Applications for RDAC openings received by the committee or postmarked by 4 p.m. on April 1 will be part of the first review for the open position.

Those interested in applying can do so online at ashland.or.us/RDAC. To complete an application online, click on this link: APPLICATION. Hard copy applications may be picked up and dropped off at The Grove, 1195 E. Main St., between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

Though the process has not started yet, the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission will also be accepting applications soon for an open position following the resignation of longtime Parks Commissioner Mike Gardiner earlier this month.

The commission, as stated in the city’s charter, has 60 days to fill the vacancy from the date Gardiner leaves office, according to parks staff. His resignation takes effect on or after Monday, Jan. 31.
