Letter: Take a closer look at Trump

January 22, 2024

In response to several letters to the editor concerning former President Donald Trump, I feel compelled to ask the authors, in all due respect, to take a closer look.

The media, both professional and amateur, has spent a lot of time vilifying Trump and painting a dire picture of what will happen if he wins the presidency again (or even if he loses). There is a lot more information available now about what actually happened on January 6. And the man did improve the economy and keep us out of foreign wars during his time in office.

Does his personality grate on folks? Indeed it does. But that is no reason to suspect that he is a dictator in the making. Did he listen to bad advice when he was in office? Of course. But he is a constitutional conservative and will try to do what is right for the citizens of this country.

He will not invade Mexico to end the cartels as one person suggests here. But he will end the open-door policy and defend our borders against the flow of drugs, including fentanyl.

Also, there is a chance he will take on as his vice presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who has a good head on his shoulders (and is sometimes also misunderstood by liberals, particularly with relation to gender identity and climate change).

Please dig deep into their policies, listen to their arguments and then vote your conscience based on fact versus rumor.
