A community event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St., Ashland.
The event is free and open to the public. The doors open at 11:30 a.m.
Come celebrate Dr. King’s legacy. Seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. The event and online simulcast will be sign language-interpreted. The celebration’s theme will be “We Choose Love! Now more than ever, the dream must continue.”
Historian, educator, and longtime event host D.L. Richardson will deliver the keynote speech, with additional messages from area faith leaders. There will be performances by the Ashland School District middle school choir, the Rogue Valley Peace Choir, and BASE Youth Dancers. A slideshow presentation on the need for the Civil Rights movement will also be shown.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Southern Oregon University Food Pantry.
