Prepare to be amazed at the artworks you create!” —Lila Higgins\, co-author of Wild LA \nEqual parts educational and inspirational\, The Insect Artist is a guidebook intended for artists of all skill levels looking to cultivate their artistic practice. SUMMARY:Windows in Time: Shreds and Patches: OSF Uncovered
DESCRIPTION:A few days before his death\, Angus Bowmer finally finished a two chapbook series entitled “Shreds and Patches.” \nThese books were written primarily for his festival actors as a passing on of his thoughts and knowledge about the Ashland Elizabethan Stage. Long out of print and almost lost to history\, these chapbooks have been recently uncovered. For the first time ever\, you will hear Angus’ personal learnings\, teachings and vision for the Ashland Elizabethan Stage through the lens of his actors and company. \nPresenter Jonathan Stevens is an Ashland\, Oregon based actor and director who has been performing and creating for the theatre in one way or another since the age of 10. Born and raised in Baton Rouge\, Louisiana\, he went on to graduate from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts before receiving his BFA in Theatre from The Boston Conservatory. Shortly after graduating college\, Jonathan was invited to join the acting company for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival\, where he has remained a company member since 2015. He has performed in over 20 productions\, ranging from Shakespeare\, musicals and new works. In addition to his work at OSF\, Jonathan has also worked professionally in New York\, Los Angeles\, Minneapolis\, Seattle\, and Boston. He has also had the pleasure of training with internationally renowned Commedia dell’Arte maestro Antonio Fava in Italy. His love for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is immense and he can’t wait to share his passion with you. \nThe monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people\, values\, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services. Programs are presented in Medford (first Wednesdays\, in-person and online) and again in Ashland (second Wednesdays\, in-person). Registration is only required to attend the Zoom version of Medford’s program. Recordings of Medford presentations are available on the JCLS Beyond YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Thursday Evening Calm Abiding Meditaion
DESCRIPTION:This meditation is common to many traditions of Buddhism. In this practice\, we rest our attention on a simple meditative support\, such as the breath. Instead of following thoughts and emotions as we usually do\, we release them and maintain our connection to the support. \n“From this practice\, we can experience a stable and calm mind. We learn to maintain and return to a sense of stillness\, no matter what our outer circumstances. The mind is relaxed\, alert and aware. The results of this practice are serenity\, freedom in the face of circumstances\, and ultimately Buddhahood.” \nFrom Meditation for Beginners\, by Bokar Rinpoche. \nTo attend Calm Abiding Meditation via Zoom\, email the office at OFFICE@KSCASHLAND.ORG to join the mailing list. \n

SUMMARY:Jacksonville Haunted History Returns!
DESCRIPTION:Historic Jacksonville\, Inc.’s Haunted History walking tours are back\, and what more appropriate day to begin our 2025 season than on Friday\, June 13! \nGuests will be introduced to some of the town’s historic buildings along with the restless ghosts and spirits who still occupy them. Costumed guides will share notable tales of woe\, sorrow\, and regret on the second Friday of each month from May through August with special tours in September and October. Two completely different tours will be offered each evening—a “Courthouse” route and a Britt Hill route. Tour times vary by month. June tours begin at 7pm and 7:15pm. \nThese approximately one-hour walks\, which leave from the Jacksonville Visitors Center at the corner of North Oregon and C streets\, have limited space and reservations are required. \nReservations must be made online at https://historicjacksonville.org/haunted-history-tours/ no later than 4 pm on the day of the tour. “Walk ups” may be accommodated if space is available. The cost is $10 per person\, with profits going to historic preservation efforts. \n“Here in Jacksonville we take our history seriously\,” notes Carolyn Kingsnorth\, President of Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. “We respect the legacy the pioneers left us. But we’ve also learned that some of these pioneers were reluctant to leave and are still with us in the form of spirits and ghosts. \nThese tours are not your typical ‘ghost tours’ with special effects. They are history tours about real hauntings resulting from past events. The stories—some scary\, some benign—come from multiple sources\, from people who have experienced these lingering spirits. These tours are our attempt to recognize and honor these restless souls.” \nTwo different tour routes are offered each night. “Both tours include several haunted houses\,” Kingsnorth reassures\, “but each tour has a different theme and content. Our ‘Courthouse’ route features brothels\, epidemics\, and hangings. The Britt Hill tour shares tales of murder\, arson\, saloons\, and Oregon’s first Chinatown. The ‘Courthouse’ route is flat. The Britt Hill route requires walking up to the Britt Festival grounds—but guests do get to periodically stop and pant along with our tour guides! The two routes give participants the opportunity to come back for more and give us the opportunity to share more of Jacksonville’s storied history.” \nHistoric Jacksonville\, Inc. plans to offer both Friday and Saturday tours in September and two weekends of Friday and Saturday tours in October\, so stay tuned for tours and times! \nFor reservations\, visit https://www.historicjacksonville.org/haunted-history-tours/. SUMMARY:Walk through Jacksonville History
DESCRIPTION:Jacksonville’s “Walk through History” tours are back! \nAt 10 a.m. every Saturday from May 24th through August 30th\, Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. will be offering one-hour guided walks through Jacksonville’s National Historic Landmark District\, the first on the West Coast! Participants will take a stroll through history\, visiting government and commercial buildings\, fraternal lodges\, and homes that capture the stories of the people who transformed a gold rush town into Southern Oregon’s 19th Century social\, governmental\, and commercial hub. They’ll learn how gambling money built a church; how the Civil War ended a successful mercantile partnership; how a saloon housed the county’s first museum; how fire reshaped the town; and how a railroad both destroyed the town and preserved it. \nWalking tours leave from Jacksonville’s New City Hall (the historic “Courthouse Square”) at 206 North 5th Street between West C and D streets and cover about one mile with multiple stops. Tours are FREE but donations are encouraged! All monies go towards the preservation and maintenance of Jacksonville’s historic buildings. \nFor individuals who prefer not to “stretch their legs\,” Historic Jacksonville’s website (https://www.historicjacksonville.org) offers numerous ways to explore Jacksonville virtually. These include multiple blogs about the town and its settlers along with three video tours that introduce viewers to Jacksonville’s Historic Landmark District\, its Historic Homes\, and its Pioneer Cemetery. \nHistoric Jacksonville\, Inc. invites you to forget the “names\, dates\, places\, and battles” version of history you may have been taught in school. HJI’s live and virtual tours are about “real history”—people and their stories. They are about life! \nAdditional information on “Walk through History” and other Historic Jacksonville\, Inc. tours is available at 541-245-3650; info@historicjacksonville.org; and www.historicjacksonville.org.
