SUMMARY:Ecosystems as Models for Restoring Our Economies (To a Sustainable State) a discussion with Author John Giordanengo
DESCRIPTION:Most of us have spent our lives trying to “save the environment” through individual actions—recycling\, shopping local\, supporting green companies. Or we are mired in seemingly endless social challenges like homelessness\, the growing wealth gap\, food insecurity\, and so many others. Meaningful change has been painfully slow. \nIn Ecosystems as Models for Restoring Our Economies (To a Sustainable State)\, John H. Giordanengo offers a fresh and engaging perspective on our most pressing social and environmental concerns\, and takes the most logical next step. With human stories and intriguing research\, he shows how we can learn from resilient\, adaptable\, and productive ecological systems to transform our economies to a sustainable state. \nDrawing on decades of experience in ecological restoration and business\, Giordanengo outlines the mysterious structure of a sustainable economy\, and the means by which all of us—politicians\, business leaders\, consumers—can take novel actions for real impact. From a focus on strengthening regional economies to regenerative agriculture to renewable energy\, he highlights practical strategies for those who care deeply about environmental and social issues\, while sustaining our economic needs.

SUMMARY:Thursday Evening Calm Abiding Meditaion
DESCRIPTION:This meditation is common to many traditions of Buddhism. In this practice\, we rest our attention on a simple meditative support\, such as the breath. Instead of following thoughts and emotions as we usually do\, we release them and maintain our connection to the support. \n“From this practice\, we can experience a stable and calm mind. We learn to maintain and return to a sense of stillness\, no matter what our outer circumstances. The mind is relaxed\, alert and aware. The results of this practice are serenity\, freedom in the face of circumstances\, and ultimately Buddhahood.” \nFrom Meditation for Beginners\, by Bokar Rinpoche. \nTo attend Calm Abiding Meditation via Zoom\, email the office at OFFICE@KSCASHLAND.ORG to join the mailing list. \n

It was important to his parents\, however\, to raise their boy as a well-rounded person\, so his early years were also spent with school\, table tennis\, and ballroom dancing before focusing on music. \nSince then\, Ilya Shmukler made solo appearances in Europe and North America\, and performed with such artists as Mikhail Pletnev\, Paavo Järvi\, Marin Alsop\, Nicholas McGegan\, Junichi Hirokami\, Anne-Marie McDermott\, Anton Nel and David Radzynski. Collaborations include the Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich\, Musikkollegium Winterthur\, the Mariinsky\, Fort Worth Symphony\, Sendai Philharmonic\, Kansas City Chamber\, Bayer-Symphoniker\, and New Music Orchestras. \nTo have become a finalist and the recipient of the award for the “Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto” at the 2022 Cliburn Competition is a milestone in his career\, as is his New York debut as a winner of the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall Debut Audition in 2022. An alumnus of the Moscow State Conservatoire under the guidance of Elena Kuznetsova and Sergey Kuznetsov\, Ilya continues his studies at Park University (USA) with Stanislav Ioudenitch.
